Police Administration

The Police Department is administered by Chief of Police Harry Gurin.

Chief Gurin began his law enforcement career while attending Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri. Upon returning to metropolitan area he joined the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and retired after 26 great years. After leaving the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department he served as the Chief of Police in Greenwood, Missouri. Chief Gurin has served in several capacities with the Peculiar Police Department. After 8 years as a full time officer he was the Assistant Chief of Police for 7 years and became the Acting Chief in May, 2010. He officially became the City of Peculiar Chief of Police October 5, 2010. His total time in law enforcement, for those counting, is 43 continuous wonderful years.

Dispatching is contracted to the Raymore Police Department. Peculiar has a Police Department consisting of 11 Full Time officers, 4 Reserve officers and 1 police clerk. Officers are scheduled on 12 hour shifts.

The City of Peculiar Police Department is committed to maintaining a high degree of training to ensure the safety of citizens and officers.
