Peculiar Parks and Recreation Department
Welcome to Peculiar Parks & Recreation!
Did you know that four out of five Americans use their local parks or recreation systems? Or that 70 percent have a park or recreation facility within walking distance of their home? These areas are the center of communities where people play, relax, and grow. They are where dreams are born and creativity flourishes. (NRPA – National Recreation & Park Association)
Did you know that the City of Peculiar has seven parks covering nearly 170 acres throughout Peculiar? There is over 100 acres of Park Land for the residents of Peculiar to use anytime, and more than 66 acres of land dedicated specifically for future parks & facilities. Many of our parks offer amenities including playgrounds, picnic shelters, restrooms, picnic tables and BBQ grills, 1 full size basketball court, a fishing lake, and ball fields.
As we move forward in 2013, I believe that the year of 2012 deserves a little credit for laying the ground work for many years to come. The Peculiar Board began a great work over 10 years ago with establishing the foundation of a Parks System and a cooperative work with the volunteer youth sports organizations that existed for years. In 2012, the Peculiar Parks & Recreation Department was officially established in November with the hiring of its first Parks & Recreation Director ever to oversee day to day operations of the parks system and develop recreation programs.
As we continue to maintain and upgrade our current Park System, the City of Peculiar is are making a commitment to Peculiar residents to provide recreation programs and first class parks, facilities, and green space.
Thank you for your support of the parks. Get out and enjoy all the beauty available to you in your parks system.
Nathan
